The Beauty Buys Beauty Editors Swear By And The Reasons Why

And the beauty trend one beauty editor is desperate for you to try

Being a beauty editor is a privilege. And a pleasure. Well, that is if beauty buys are your thing. And let’s face it – if you’re here, then they probably are. But back to beauty editors …

Beauty editors are regularly sent every brand new beauty buy that hits the market. We get to touch, smell, feel, apply and play with pretty much 100 per cent of the makeup, skincare and hair  products that are released in this country and yes – that’s as heavenly as it sounds. The interesting thing is that when you’re in this position, you very quickly discover become extremely picky about what you will use. You also acquire distinct favourites and these are the beauty buys you will veer towards time and time again.

You see, when you get to trial everything you know exactly what works – and what doesn’t. This is why, when we need a tip we hit up a fellow beauty editor. Because she (or he) will have the inside intel on what is really worth your hard-earned cash.

We’ve chatted to plenty of beauty editors since the launch of The Beauty Insider. These are our people, after all. This time round, we went to beauty editor extraordinaire and good friend, Stephanie Darling. Stephanie is legendary in the beauty world and for a swag of reasons. Firstly, she’s genuinely beautiful (and that applies both inside and out). She has impeccable taste. She’s also one of the most experienced beauty editors in the country – woman knows her stuff. And so, without further ado, here are Stephanie’s recommendations for beauty buys all round.

Your All-Time Five Fave Products Are:

Editions De Parfums by Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady EDP (100ml), $479.

It smells so divine and everyone loves it. It literally stops people in their tracks. In a good way!

The M.A.C Lip Pencil in Spice, $30.

This is the most perfect shade. It is great on its own or as a base for any nude lipstick.

Cosmedix Restore Moisture Rich Mask, $72. Quite simply, it is the absolute best way to soothe unhappy skin, especially post treatment and particularly if that treatment has been intense.

Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil, $82, is always in my bathroom vanity. The truth is my body is so neglected that it it deserves this skin treat. And needs it too.

Klorane Oat Milk Dry Shampoo, $14.99. There’s nothing quite like a dry shampoo to create bedroom hair and this is the best one available. It’s perfect for my blonde hair and now comes in a brunette version too.

The beauty trend I am loving right now … Grey nails.

The hair trend I am loving right now … Darker roots and chopping off damaged ends.

My favourite beauty heroine is … Jane Fonda because at 80 she is still beautiful and full of energy.

If there was one thing I wish more women would try it’s … Different lipstick shades.

And Now Mrs Darling, A Little About You:

First of all you got your start in beauty how and when? When I was working on Mode Magazine and the beauty editor left. It was a baptism of fire but I loved it!

Your official title today is … Beauty director Sunday Life and Daily Life.

Your average day looks like … opening and sorting multiple beauty parcels, researching and writing my column and attending events.

You love it because … it is never ever dull and I get to run with the beauty pack who are the best group of women ever.

The one thing those not in the industry might not realise is that Beauty Editors … actually work very hard.

The best thing about the gig is … all of the above

The worst thing about the gig is … nothing.
