Plus-size blogger Anna O’Brien is a confident, gorgeous woman. Yes, she’s plus-size. It wouldn’t make much sense to be a plus-size blogger otherwise. So, that’s the background. Plus-size woman blogs about plus-size fashion. And she does with style, finesse and a healthy dose of fun.

See, you like her already right? We certainly do. But anyway, back to why we’re writing about this particular plus-size blogger, who shares her thoughts at Glitter And Lazers, in the first place. Anna has this week spoken out about being told to ‘cover up’ her body while in the middle of a photo shoot in a Las Vegas hotel. She’s a professional, does this for a living, so she didn’t just rock up on the day, get her kit off and have a few pals bang off some shots on their smart phones.

Quite the opposite in fact. Anna had gone through the proper channels and booked in with the hotel’s public relations team, formally requesting their permission for her to stage her shoot on their premises. She even made it clear that this was to be a swimsuit shoot – and accordingly, she would be WEARING SWIMSUITS. Not to hard to figure out right?

But a report on Refinery 29 says that when Anna stripped off for the shoot, the hotel’s security team arrived and told her to cover up or leave. The report says she showed the security officers the correspondence between her and the PR team in which she was given the go ahead to shoot in that specific location and in swimwear. But the officers told her to leave and immediately.

Anna took to Instagram to express her anger and disappointment.

“I find it ironic that I’ve taken photos in swimsuits all over the world and the one place I was told to cover up was Las Vegas. Sure, thin girls in thongs and pasties are A OK but a plus girl in a full coverage suit, trying to take an epic editorial shot- now that’s just too much,” she wrote.

“Jokes on them though, I’d already gotten the perfect photo. They can’t erase this happened. I’m learning as I push myself to do more editorial type concepts, the push back is greater. But that’s why I push. It’s more than just a girl in the city of sin in a bikini, It’s a statement. We will be seen. We’re not hiding anymore. And we’re going to wear whatever we want, wherever we want. Not just in Vegas. EVERYWHERE. Change is coming; the question is are you going to stand in the way or help us push through?”

The post immediately went viral and attracted close to 30,000 likes. There were also close to 2000 comments, the vast majority of which backed Anna and expressed disappointment in the security team’s attitude.

“Thanks to you I have finally found the courage to put on a bikini and take off the t-shirt at the beach. Thank you,” shared one.

“This photo is everything 🙌🏼 keep rocking girl!!!!!,” shared another.

Of course, not all of the comments were positive. There were the usual hateful remarks from those who simply feel the need to take another person down a peg or two – and from the safety of their keyboard of course. We’re not going to repeat those – why give that kind of thing the airtime?

But we will say what we think and that is this. Anna believes in herself. She’s sassy and fun and pro-active. She’s positive and kind to herself and to others. And brave. Yes. Damn straight she is. And there’s nothing we like more in a human than all of those things. Here’s to you Anna! Keep going.
